Chris Cubeta & The Liars Club

  • Singer/songwriter pop-rock is the genre here. Chris's vocals are rich and deeply entrenched in glorious harmonies. Sure there are about a gazillion likeminded singer/songwriters out in the industry struggling to get noticed, but the reason that you should pay attention to this guy and his outfit is because they pay attention. To every nitpicking detail. Whether it's the rootsy approach to guitar tone, with twanging notes that sound purely from the Delta blues school of sound or the incredibly lavish production that sounds big budget but was probably accomplished with more elbow grease than million dollar studio time. It doesn't hurt that his lyrics show his character and give an insider look to his thought process. Tender music this strong is a rare gem, so be sure to polish this rhinestone up nice and shiny.

april smith & the great picture show

  • Born at the end of disco and the middle of rock n roll, when this one began to cry, god said “Jesus, she’s got lungs.” Her music is like this: combine the dramatic presence of Freddie Mercury, melodic sweetness of Buckley, range and power of Ann Wilson, smoky sarcasm of Tom Waits, and the ornate imagination of Michel Gondry and you’re getting close. Sounds good, we know. We call it vocally-driven-cinemelodic rock (for short).

Derek James

  • There are few places New York City based singer/songwriter Derek James hasn’t been. Performing live for the very first time in Australia, James soon found himself paving his way through the streets and clubs of Southern France with an assembled band of French musicians in toe, playing these catchy original compositions that were constantly bouncing around in his head.

His music encompasses his experiences, and his experiences have been anything but ordinary. Stray, James’ debut album, was written in the basement of a family’s home in the suburbs of New York, where he worked as a live-in nanny after returning from Europe. Unusual job yes, but you name it and he’s probably done it – bar mitzvah and wedding video’s editor, spa package salesmen, and once even passed out bottled water at malls to name a few.
