Land of Talk

  • Montreal-based musical innovator Elizabeth Powell has been banging out "Anti Folk Basement Rock" since the ripe old age of fourteen. Born and partially raised in a one-room schoolhouse in Moonstone, Ontario, Elizabeth and her family later moved to Guelph, where she tapped into the local music scene and moved beyond Suzuki violin to an acoustic Yamaha that she "acquired" from an aunt. Influences can be traced back to early P.J. Harvey, Dinosaur Jr., and the local Punk rock and Home rock in the Royal City. No stranger to the Hillside Festival, Elizabeth played electric violin in the Aaron Riches Nuclear Family Band at Hillside '97; bass and vocals for the Valentines in '98 and then solo in '99. Between gigging around Ontario and Quebec, she recorded the EP belle epoque, which she released the summer before heading off to Concordia University in Montreal. The Music program was too constricting for the young singer-songwriter and she left shool to practice music on her own terms. Unhappy with every project she joined, Powell finally found the perfect chemical trio with Eric and Chris. - Maple Music

For Her And The Snow

  • As the snow fell from the pastel shapes in the sky, the lower east side fell quiet. took soft steps toward yet another long winter night. the silver sequin stars always guide me. one chapter after the next brings me one step closer to a dream difficult to describe to others not inside my mind. march on i say to the owl !! let's light that lamp that fuels your heart so we will be warm tonight and ultimately write. cast a spell upon me is what she does even from so many miles far. snow flakes touch my fire escape and somehow form a wall of emotions that leak through my window. this is when my fingers touch the keys, lips start to quiver, and soft words start to display a past so powerful it hurts. ..............
Joe Presti lives in Brooklyn, NY and writes songs about relationships and the heavy journey of life using a backdrop of emotions that stem straight from the heart. Many live sets include Joe solo or with a few friends on stage trying to release those emotions in a way that the crowd can hopefully relate to. Joe has one other constant band member. It’s his bass player and life long friend Palli. The rest of the band seems to change a bunch probably because Joe is always evolving into something new and magical. Whether Joe is performing solo, with Palli, or with a full orchestra, the band name remains the same “For Her And The Snow”…..
