Ava Luna
With the release of their critically lauded debut LP, Ice Level, in early 2012, and having played a near-constant stream of shows and short tours over the successive months, NYC natives Ava Luna have built a reputation for noisy, manic basement soul music in the form of stark, earthy synth-driven beats coupled with tight, prismatic vocal harmonies, which Christopher Weingarten has described as “beautiful, infectious, and damn-near indescribable.
Sinkane - (Set time: 10:30 PM)
Sinkane
Sinkane is an alias of Ahmed Gallab, a solo recording artist from Columbus, OH, who sings and plays numerous instruments (drums, bass, guitar, keyboards, et al.). His percussion-heavy style of music draws from a wide range of influences, most noticeably free jazz (e.g., Pharoah Sanders) and shoegaze (e.g., My Bloody Valentine). Born in Sudan, Gallab and his family fled to the United States when he was six years old. He made his full-length album debut in 2008 on Emergency Umbrella Records with Color Voice. Also in 2008 he toured as the drummer of Caribou and Of Montreal.
