Chrome Cranks - (Set time: 11:30 PM)
Chrome Cranks
Since the 2009 reactivation of the classic 1990s lineup of the Chrome Cranks fans have been grinding their teeth for a new album of the influential New York band’s volatile, high-octane blasts. In these chokingly bleak, post-ironic times there simply aren’t any other acts out there like the Cranks, who play unapologetically confrontational, utterly incendiary rock ’n’ roll like they mean it with every poisoned pore. Like few bands before or since, the foursome—singer/guitarist Peter Aaron, guitarist William G. Weber, drummer Bob Bert, and bassist Jerry Teel—simultaneously embraces and destroys rock’s very traditions. But finally this soft, pain-deserving world has something new to choke on: Ain’t No Lies in Blood, the first album of new Chrome Cranks material since 1997, which is out now on Thick Syrup Records (CD) and Bang! Records (LP).
Star and Dagger - (Set time: 10:30 PM)
Star and Dagger
“The perfect blend of Black Sabbath and Valley of the Dolls” – Lina Lecaro, LA Weekly
Star & Dagger is a blues-rock/metal group made up of good friends Sean Yseult (White Zombie), Donna She Wolf (Cycle Sluts From Hell), Dave Catching (Eagles of Death Metal), Gene Trautmann (Queens of the Stone Age), and the sublime vocalist Von Hesseling. The band was formed with auspicious beginnings: Sean and Donna were drinking late one night with the legendary Lenny Kaye and he declared: "You two must start a band, I see it!" They took his word and set to it. The band layers dense guitars onto a heavy groove, strung together by Von's towering vox, which enshrines the specter of Cherie Currie, Anita Pallenberg and Rob Halford all at once. The band has recently attracted much attention, selling out their first show in LA and opening for High on Fire, Helmet, Eagles of Death Metal, Down and Saint Vitus. Star & Dagger's first recording emerged a few months ago, a 12" vinyl titled "In My Blood" on the boutique label Last Hurrah Records. They have a full l.p. recorded at Rancho de la Luna, produced by Ethan Allen and Dave Catching, and mastered by J. Yuenger (White Zombie) ready for release, along with their first soon to be released video directed by Art Haynie.
