Hess is More - (Set time: 10:30 PM)
Hess is More
The brain-child of Danish composer, producer and multi-instrumentalist Mikkel Hess, this seven-piece powerhouse balances the spontaneity of a Brooklyn warehouse rave with the complex scope of an orchestra drawing comparisons to everyone from Erlend Oye and Jon Brion to CAN. Their 2011 Nublu Records release "Creation Keeps the Devil Away" continues to receive global acclaim with Hess himself actively composing and performing with the Royal Danish Ballet and being included in the soundtrack for the Amnesty International 50th Anniversary Film.
Ducky - (Set time: 9:30 PM)
Ducky is the labor of love of San Francisco born songstress Morgan Neiman.
At thirteen, she seized a year-long school project as an excuse to buy Logic and a cheap microphone. By sixteen, Ducky was spinning clubs around San Francisco, and a year later she dropped out of high school to attend NYU's Clive Davis Department of Recorded Music.
Her time in NYC has hardly been studious, though. When she's not learning in the studios she plays around the tristate area, from dingy dives to the Studio at Webster Hall. Ducky has shared the stage with Fool's Gold artists Danny Brown, Action Bronson, and Party Supplies, Jasmine Solano, Trouble Andrew, T. Mills, Ninjasonik, Japanther, Rioux, Punches, Dirty Fences, and Converse "Get Out of the Garage" Contest winners Beast Make Bomb.
On tape, this duckling's coke-binge beats turn soft and bittersweet over buzzing bass. Live, it's the beat that takes over. Infectious basslines and synths, vocals that skip from soaring to sweet, and a chest-rattling four-on-the-floor kick that's guaranteed to move your feet. Two teddybear vixens dance with her on stage, half go-go, half girl group.
A live Ducky performance is a transportive experience to an ethereal pop world you won't want to leave anytime soon.
