Next Tribe formed in the summer of 2000 and was a common fixture in the legendary venue the Wetlands Preserve. Led by guitarist Rob Mastrianni with Drummer Phil Scotti and Bassist James Criscitiello the band pushed the envelope night in and night out with one of the most original sounds in the NYC scene. From flamenco to punk to improvisational psychedelia, clubs and crowds where drawn in by this diverse group. Next Tribe has won critical acclaim with Relix Magazine, Jambase.com, The Village Voice and many other respected musical publications. Next Tribe has also held residencies at such prestigious clubs as The Knitting Factory, Tobacco Road and The Wetlands Preserve. They have shared the stage with Robert Randolf and the Family Band, New Deal, Lake Trout, Michael Frantis' Spearhead, The Disco Biscuits, Bumblefoot, Dub Trio to name a select few. In 2008 the band was also featured performing in the Oasis - Dig Out Your Soul In The Streets. The band took a hiatus that same year and will be reunited for the first time in 2 years for tonight's show.
Rob Mastrianni - (Set time: 7:30 PM)

Inspired by the vastness of world music and psychedelic rock Rob Mastrianni’s guitar style is deep and diverse. Rob incorporates flamenco and eastern influences with a raw intense punk rock energy. He isn't your typical Strat or Les Paul guitar player. What makes Rob stand out among other rock guitarist is his choice of unusual guitars.
Mastrianni's main instrument is a Coral Electric Sitar / Electric Harp Guitar in which he utilizes the 13 sympathetic strings like a harp while hammering bass riffs on the guitar neck simultaneously. He also employs alternate tunings and percussive finger-style techniques. Drawing on influences of Michael Hedges, Kaki King, Paco DeLucia and Hendrix, his music is eclectic, melodic, rhythmic and exciting.
Mastrianni also works as a session guitarist and can be heard on soundtracks for network TV shows, Belly Dance DVDs and the Showtime serious the L Word. He has also recorded and toured with Life of Agony vocalist Keith “Mina” Caputo and continues to record and tour with his current project Beatbox Guitar.
