"Acoustic guitar, accordion, harmonies and enough Brit-folk melodies to make Mumford & Sons jealous." -American Songwriter

"A Redmoon spectacle multiplied by a Decemberists concert... It's tough to shake the notion that you're in at the launch stage of a group that could soon escape orbit." -Time Out Chicago

PigPen Theatre Co. began creating their unique brand of music, film, and theatre as freshman at the Carnegie Mellon School of Drama in 2008. Their debut indie-folk album, “Bremen”, was featured by American Songwriter and was named #10 album of the year in The Huffington Post’s 2012 Grammy preview. Their follow up EP, “The Way I’m Running”, was released on October 8th and was premiered by American Songwriter. They were also the first group to win the NYC Fringe Festival’s top honor for a play two years in a row in 2010 and 2011, and produced several original plays off-Broadway earning them critic’s picks from The New York Times, Time Out New York, New York Magazine and more - ranking them in the top ten theatrical events of both 2011 and 2012.

PigPen is thrilled to be developing their debut children’s novel with Writers House, one of the world’s leading young adult literary agencies, as they are currently on tour as a band.
Elijah Ocean - (Set time: 6:30 PM)
Elijah Ocean
Elijah Ocean is an American singer-songwriter making modern folk and country music rooted in the styles of artists like Neil Young, Gram Parsons and The Band.

Ocean was born in a small house in the Hudson Valley. His parents later moved the family to the woods of midcoast Maine, where he grew up listening to records by The Beatles, Paul Simon and Willie Nelson. As a teenager Ocean was gifted an acoustic guitar and, inspired by the songs of Bob Dylan, began writing songs in his family’s barn.

Ocean’s career as a solo artist began in 2009 with the release of his folky debut, The Wind or the Wine, which coincided with a move from Maine to New York City. It was there he honed his voice and vision, establishing himself as a unique and authentic musical talent with the release of Tumble & Fall in 2012. A steady regimen of national touring followed, with Ocean recording two sessions for Daytrotter and playing to packed houses from Mercury Lounge in New York to Hotel Cafe in LA. Now he is set to release the follow up, Bring It All In.

The opportunity to record this new group of songs at Waterfront Studios was a dream come true for the blossoming singer. Built by producer Henry Hirsch (Lenny Kravitz, Mick Jagger) inside a nineteenth-century church in Hudson, the analog studio provided the perfect space for Ocean’s thoughtful songs to come to life. He brought in seven of his best friends for a weekend of live tracking with engineer Greg Di Gesu, and together they captured the eight songs that make up Bring It All In. The open sound of the room paired with the natural arrangements of piano, fiddle, and pedal steel create a comfortable bed for Ocean’s earnest vocals, which were caught live on the floor with Sarah Durning singing harmony on a shared mic. The album was released last fall as Ocean once again made a simultaneous move, this time to Los Angeles.
