Imagine a band -- A band that exudes musical creativity and power by using elements to convey a grand story. A story of a man whose heart and body is breaking. His love is lost in the Great Chicago Fire, and he's longing to have her back in his arms even if it means running through the smoldering avenues and alleys where he and his dearest once shared their love. Now imagine a stage strung with a warm glow of white Christmas lights, littered with flowers of all kinds. Picture if you will, this band. This band is called The Shackeltons, they have amazed and inspired the audiences with their artistry and story of lost love and new hope. Life is a battle -- one in which The Shackeltons are prepared to win, so it seems only natural to dress for battle. The Shackeltons are dressed in uniforms once worn by men fighting wars with guns and grenades, but The Shackeltons are fighting a different battle. This battle is not to destroy, but to rebuild. Rebuild that which has been destroyed in everyone: hope, love, compassion, and optimism. "I'd rather see your soft heart then see your soft skin". "The robots purr like my favorite kittens and I'm forced to love them even though it's with you, who I'm smitten". "I've been away for so long that I've forgotten what love really is, so come on baby- show me what I missed". "My heart is more than these repeated beats, and home is more than these rented bricks, and my love is more than these repeated cries for some silk smooth skin and some dark brown eyes".

Co-founded by Frank Backgammon and younger brother Donnie Yale, The Sammies grew up in rural Wadesboro, NC. The brothers’ initial jam sessions took place when Frank was home for long weekends from school at the University of North Carolina at Charlotte. As the band began to gig around Wadesboro and Charlotte they picked up close friend and guitarist Bobby Freedom along the way. While touring locally, The Sammies caught the ear of Chuck Morrison, founder of MoRisen Records. Committed to cultivating local talent, Morrison quickly signed the band and soon had them in the studio recording their debut. Produced by John Agnello (Sonic Youth, The Breeders), the album reached the Top 5 on four of CMJ’s music charts and secured licensing deals for several major motion pictures.

Their sophomore record, "Sandwich", just released, was recorded in Kernersville, NC at Mitch Easter's Fidelitorium. it was produced by Ben Holst (Drive-By Truckers), Billy Bennett (Drive-By Truckers, The Whigs) and The Sammies. Regarding the new record, Pitchfork.com said, "Coming across these days like a more nuanced Whigs rather than a bar-band Futureheads, the Sammies have managed to refine their sound without losing any of its loser glory. Whoo!"

With roots firmly planted in strong songwriting and inventive production, Taxi Taxi's sound defies easy classification. The band serves up tunes that are by turns rocky and melancholic, experimental and nostalgic. Since its release Maps and Legends has received attention from the music blogosphere and charted in CMJ college radio charts. Taxi Taxi continues to perform in support of the album and develop material for their next release.
