Com Truise
Com Truise
Com Truise is one of the many personas of producer and designer Seth Haley, born and raised in upstate New York and operating out of a 12'-overrun apartment in Princeton, New Jersey. An admitted synth obsessive, Com Truise is the maker of an experimental and bottom heavy style he calls "mid-fi synth-wave, slow-motion funk".

Haley's been making music on the side for roughly a decade—going through pseudonyms like toothbrushes (Sarin Sunday, SYSTM, Airliner)—first as a DJ, and currently, as an excavator of softer, window-fogging synth-wave.
Light Asylum
Light Asylum
There's a sense of release watching a performer who was clearly born to be on stage, whose whole life has been building up to the moment when all their pent-up artistic urges can be turned loose on an audience. Some people make music for fun; others do it because there's a force that's been bearing down on them since birth that positively compels them to flush it all out of their systems. Light Asylum singer Shannon Funchess would seem to be a card-carrying member of the latter group. She manages to route her sinewy vocal through the cold-blooded seething of Ian Curtis, the deadpan drawl of Grace Jones and the full-tilt intensity of Henry Rollins circa Damaged.

The juddering electro-goth backing provides a perfect foil for her to break out that extraordinary range, which effortlessly transitions from hoarse rasps to deep-throated contralto brooding and back again. Funchess' lyrical conceits mostly center on drugs and religious imagery, but there's a vitality and conviction to her delivery, a sense that she needs to be up there doing this, that elevates Light Asylum beyond the sizable amount of past and present artists who have explored similar territory.

"His music is reminiscent of tender makeout sessions from 1987. Or how I imagine it would be if I hadn't been six at the time," tweets @billbergstrom. And it's true, there's a lushness and warmth to Pfenning's new songs that is nevertheless anything but sleepy – this is intense, sexual, lush-warm music. Not unlike the man himself.

In 2005 Aaron started the group that would first draw him serious attention, Chairlift. After producing an initial full-length (2007's "Daylight Savings") at Elliott Smith's studio in Los Angeles, the band relocated to New York, wrote & co-produced a new batch of songs ("Does You Inspire You" (2008)), and signed to Columbia Records. Chairlift toured everywhere people like bands, playing with such indie jewels as The Killers, Phoenix, Ariel Pink, John Maus, and MGMT. They did Bonnaroo, Lollapallooza, & All Points West, soundtracked an iPod commercial, and received an MTV VMA nomination for "Evident Utensil." After a vigorous two years working the Chairlift record, Aaron shifted his attention to Rewards early this year.

"Are you 'Rewards' for this bio?" the author wanted to know. "Aaron Pfenning IS Rewards, baby snakes," is what Aaron Pfenning texted back. This is very literally true. Over the last eight months, as Aaron has applied his gentle-yet-assured touch to the crafting of his new album, he has played all of the instruments, produced and engineered all of the recordings. For performances, he has experimented with everything from a solo show to a five-piece (including, yes, a two-piece, three-piece, and four-piece), always anchored by his seductive, leonine stage-presence and utterly unique vocals that swing easily from a croon to a howl.

Brandon Flowers told Entertainment Weekly, "It reminds me of the desert, the way he plays. That's something that I try to capture myself. I'm a little jealous that he does it so effortlessly."
Silent Drape Runners (DJ Set)
Silent Drape Runners are the Brooklyn-based "Lynchian pop" duo of Russ Marshalek + Sophie Weiner. After forming in October of 2011, they've shared bills with the likes of Pictureplane and Austra/TRUST's Maya Potepski.
