Miracle Condition: official website; myspace; Miracle Condition is a trio featuring U.S. Maple guitarist Mark Shippy and drummer Pat Samson, with Matt Carson on guitar and vocals. The group formed in late 2006 and quickly morphed their more experimental leanings into their own brand of cinematic, illustrative spacegaze. Where U.S. Maple was known for deconstructing rock music, Miracle Condition traffics those images seen in the moments between sleeping and waking, pushing the sonic envelope into the dream world. Layers of guitar, sheets of percussion and fragile, glass-like voices from Shippy and Carson hint at elements of the psychedelic and shoegaze genres. In the live setting Miracle Condition is shatteringly loud - the droning interrupted by Samson's uniquely expressive drum patterns. With their forthcoming release on the Tizona label on February 16, 2010, Miracle Condition will undoubtedly command attention from anyone within earshot.

The House Floor: official website; myspace; "The House Floor is simply a group of friends who love and learn from each other. The Brooklyn five-piece’s debut LP, Warship, is an epic sonic interpretation of that friendship. A unique approach to song structure, more rooted in classical music than the rock/psych-pop/new folk milieu the guitar/bass/drums/mandolin setup implies, is accompanied by tight musicianship & author-delivered lyricism. Experiencing them live has been likened to, 'being on crack and then finding out that you’re dad is not you’re real dad.' While not immediately obvious, this was meant as a compliment."

Fredrik: official website; myspace; The seminal Swedish dream-folk duo Fredrik goes sophomore with Trilogi, the anticipated follow-up to the 2008 debut Na Na Ni.

In a lot of ways, Trilogi picks up right where Na Na Ni ended. Fredrik Hultin's smoothly volatile voice and earnest northern european folk compositions sit indistinguishably on top of Lindefelt's brushed, shadowy rhythms and trademark electronica-before-electricity washes of sound. However, in addition to the nylon-string guitars, the humming, the howling, the music boxes and the assortment of bells we've come to expect from the Fredrik sound, the duo also brings in more horns and strings as well as substantial noise and drone elements into the music. Combined with a more even pacing across three distinct episodes of the record, Trilogi offers more in terms of contrast and coloration and a decidedly darker tone.

Penrose: myspace; Penrose is the product of three brothers from Philadelphia living, growing, and playing music in their parents' basement. Officially formed in 2009, but actually conceived years earlier, the band strives to blend the legendary influences of the blues and progressive rock from the middle of the 20th century with the modern, fresh ideas being developed at the beginning of the 21st. Their debut demo, entitled Refract, is a guitar-centered journey exploring themes such as love, death, loss, and what happens when dead people dance. Currently residing in New York City, they are constantly writing, recording, and preparing for a productive summer of touring.
