The sons of sheep farmers, Mennonites, rail workers and Olympians, BLACK TAXI channel their diverse histories into a barn-yard stomp that is part rock, part carnival. Tribal beats and brash melodies collide in their songs, which are thick with harmonies. BLACK TAXI carries traces of The Clash, Cake, and Daft Punk, but these Brooklynites are driven by their search for newness. They play with a fever of movement and a visceral hunger; a hot noise doused in war paint that is all soul, swagger, and sweat.
Turkuaz is comprised of Brooklyn's funkiest and brightest. The two founding members, Taylor Shell and Dave Brandwein, met at Berklee College of Music in Boston. As members of the Galaxy Smith Digital Media Collective they are now kicking things into high gear with their 11 piece high energy funk band. Influences range from the Talking Heads to James Brown - P-funk to Prince- creating a show which is an eclectic mix of funk influences and sounds from all over the board. The end result is a good time to say the very least. Turkuaz is certainly more than your average funky instrumental jam band, bringing catchy vocal hooks and dirty funk grooves to the table. When the group takes their party to the stage it certainly is a spectacle to be remembered.
