Sam Amidon - (Set time: 10:00 PM)
Sam Amidon
Blending elements of folk, bluegrass, jazz, Americana and more, Vermont-born singer and fiddle/banjo/guitar player Sam Amidon's "highly personal approach opens a window on the American past and lets us feel it like nothing else around." (NPR).

His most recent release, The Following Mountain, represents a new approach for Amidon, who shifts here from his previous norm of re-working traditional folk songs and presents nine wholly-original compositions, with some lyrics drawing on traditional sources. Created with producer Leo Abrahams (Brian Eno, Regina Spektor) and Amidon’s frequent collaborator Shahzad Ismaily, the album features guest appearances by drummer Milford Graves, percussionist Juma Sultan and saxophonist Sam Gendel.

This performance at Mercury Lounge includes:
Sam Amidon, guitar, banjo, fiddle, vocals
Chris Vatalaro, percussion, bass
Thomas Bartlett, keyboard
Sam Gendel, saxophone
Sam Gendel - (Set time: 9:00 PM)
Sam Gendel
No one in my family is a musician. I come from a small, un-artistic town. Yet here I am. My name is Sam Gendel and I don't understand how anyone is supposed to reduce the experience of music to verbal language; so I am not going to try. I will say this, you are reading this now, which means you either have listened to, are listening to, or are about to listen to either me playing an instrument or a piece of my music. In that case, I thank you then, now, and/or in advance.
