From Harlem to Fort Greene to Loisaida to Gowanus, dj.henri from radioafricaonline.com has been sharing his delicious blend of African and Caribbean vibes around New York City since he picked a Haitian konpa DJ tryout card out of an East Village gutter. When dj.henri spins, you hear afrobeat, soukous, coupe decale, makossa, zouk, rai, bongo flava, kwaito, soca, zouglou, hiplife, highlife, juju, fuji, mbalax, rumba, kizomba, all mixed up with custom drumloops and jacked-up SFX. He spinned on stages large and small, bartops, in upstairs soundbooths, from B.B. King’s to Symphony Space to (le) poisson rouge to Joe’s Pub and beyond. dj.henri has opened for world music legends like Salif Keita, Femi Kuti, Antibalas, Tinariwen, Vieux Farka Toure, Ivoirian reggae star Tiken Jah Fakoly, to name just a few. He often warms up the crowd at "Desert Blues" concerts for the prestigious World Music Institute. dj.henri’s radio station Radio Africa Online is the longest-running station playing African and Caribbean music online. His popular Radio Africa Online Mixes podcast is also featured in the iTunes Store and elsewhere, generating 70 Terabytes of traffic annually.
