World Blanket - (Set time: 7:30 PM)
World Blanket
Belief in music, belief in language, belief in sound. These ideals drive the World Blanket. Belief in the moment, belief in letting things happen.
People create music and music serves an emotional purpose. To emphasize this truth, The World Blanket focuses on acoustic instruments and natural orchestration. But these songs need to resonate. They need power. So despite being fronted by an acoustic guitar and violin, World Blanket rocks. For music must still rock.
With this in mind, childhood friends Mike Pomranz and Grant Whittaker formed World Blanket in 2005 with previous bandmate Mark Henasey and violinist Jon Dunn.
By 2009, the group had morphed into an amalgam of players and influences, with Mike Pomranz serving as the sole songwriter and Katherine Fong (who honed her skills at Julliard and earns her keep at NYC’s Metropolitan Opera) serving as his right-hand woman, bringing her unique talents and vision on the violin.
World Blanket released their debut LP — aMaybe — on No Applause Records in October 2006. Featuring instrumentation far beyond their live line up of vocals/acoustic guitar, violin, bass and drums, the band established the dichotomy between their personality-driven live act and their production-oriented albums.
By 2008, the band had finished recording for their second album. Initial tracks were made available via the Pressing Issues EP in June, with the full length album, Elevator, following later in the year.
Recorded almost entirely on 2″ analog and putting a renewed focus on the group’s core instruments, Elevator serves as a testament to the project’s ideals of capturing raw emotion and investing in the moment.
In 2010, World Blanket began recording their third album — 2012, influenced by the writings of Terence McKenna — with a renewed vigor and interest in opening the music up to the world the band hopes to soon blanket.
Wild Leaves - (Set time: 6:30 PM)
Wild Leaves
Wild Leaves is a psych-folk band based in Brooklyn, NY. Their sound is something nostalgic, something with history–like a record rediscovered in your attic. The soaring harmonies, assertive rhythm section, and shimmering electric guitars have drawn comparisons to the west coast sounds of The Byrds, CSNY, & Jefferson Airplane. Yet, there is something still distinctly relevant to today–like the sound of a memory not yet lost.
